Investing with The Financial Gym

This month, we’re focusing on investing. We’re very excited to announce that the team at Financial Gym will finally be able to start investing our clients’ money. For the past 10 years, we have coached clients to become first-generation wealth holders, and we want to continue on the journey with them and help them grow and build that wealth.

Today, Garrett and Sara, both long-time trainers at Financial Gym who plan to help grow our investing division, join the show. They join to share some situations we’ve witnessed with clients that have motivated us to change the wealth management industry.

What are we drinking?

Garrett - Dutch Brothers Coffee
Sara W - Trader Joe's Blueberry Lemonade Sparkling Water
Shannon - Black Cherry Schweppes

Podcast Notes

The Mission and Evolution of The Financial Gym

  • The Financial Gym is in the process of registering to become an RIA (Registered Investment Advisor) and expects to begin offering investment services in 2024, meaning we can manage client investment portfolios.

  • Shannon left traditional financial advising a decade ago to help people build wealth. She wanted to serve those who didn’t have the minimum $250,000 required by most advisors.

  • The Gym has accomplished that over the last ten years. They have helped over 14,000 clients become financially healthy and are actively changing the face of wealth holders.

  • The folks they have helped grow their wealth are now looking for someone to help them manage it in a hands-on way. The Gym has focused on teaching people how to invest independently, but some prefer hiring an advisor.

  • People have busy lives and don’t want to do the work, but they want to trust the people doing it. With this new program, we aim for clients to know exactly what’s going on with their money, understand, and work together as a team.

Stories from the Back Seat: Ethical Advising

  • At The Gym, we prioritize empowerment, education, and transparency. The financial industry, though not entirely comprised of bad actors, unfortunately, harbors its fair share of shady characters.

  • Sara became a Trainer in March 2020, just as everything was shutting down, and she appreciated The Gym’s holistic approach and being able to help clients navigate unprecedented times.

  • Garrett comes from a background in athletics, where he did not learn about finances. This created a desire to help young athletes and their parents understand money. He officially became a Trainer in early February 2020.

  • Providing actionable guidance specific to your life circumstances is our goal at The Gym. Seeking assistance from your advisor will be encouraged because it’s important to feel comfortable and excited about your relationship.

  • Your portfolio is crafted based on your goals and adapting to life's twists and turns. The Gym will be there to actively guide you through each step of the journey.

  • It’s important to expect value from the services you’re paying for. If your current financial advisor isn’t meeting your expectations, don’t hesitate to seek alternatives that align with your needs. Clear communication about your expectations encourages a more fruitful relationship.

How to Learn More

  • Everything starts with financial wellness. Financial health is like mental and physical health; it’s an ongoing journey. You need to pay attention to it and feel empowered to make choices.

  • The most challenging part of investing is having the money to invest. The Financial Gym has been helping people grow their wealth, and the next step is helping people actively manage it.

  • If you’re a current Financial Gym client and are interested in these new services, email your Trainer for more information. If you’re not an existing client, email advisory@fingyms.com and let us know you’re interested in learning more!

Takeaway: My biggest takeaway is that wealth management is all about supporting you and your unique goals. If you don’t feel comfortable or excited with the partner you have for that journey, we hope you’ll reach out to our team and entrust us with this important role

If you have any topics you would like me to cover on this podcast, or if you’d like to get in the financially naked hot seat, I encourage you to email me at Shannon@fingyms.com, or join the private Martinis and Your Money Facebook Page, and let me know what you want to hear.

In addition to hosting this show, I’m the founder and CEO of The Financial Gym. We are celebrating 10 years of this journey, and now, more than ever, I see the importance of the work we do every day. Rising inflation, the return of student loan debt, high interest rates on mortgages, and volatile stock markets make it a time when you need a best financial friend to help you make the best choices.

At Financial Gym, you get paired with a Certified Financial Trainer, who we call your BFF. Our team has coached clients through every financial season, whether they were living paycheck to paycheck or headed into Financial Independence and retirement.

To celebrate the final season of Martinis and Your Money, listeners can get 20% off of one-on-one training services. So what are you waiting for? Head over to financialgym.com to get started today. Our warm-up calls are free of cost and judgment.
